Die, Myths, Die! Part I

Before I get into how you can get a job, let's make sure that you know what you're getting yourself into. There are lot of misconceptions about what goes on in the gaming industry.

Q. Do you just sit around and play games all day?
A. Oh my no. Not even QA. Development boots up the game to implement a specific feature or fix a specific bug. When that's done, it's time to move on to the next one. Art makes sure the image or model they just changed look right in-game. Even QA isn't playing the game for fun. Some of them might be, some of the time. But most of the time they're trying to break it. Producers/Designers (the ones who come up with the ideas) spend a lot of time playing, but it's usually tweaking levels and things like that to make sure the game isn't too easy or too hard.
